The role of Law in the legal system is a dynamic process. It is shaped by the dynamics of the society in which it operates and also shapes in turn the society by its own dynamics. In its construct, it is a `canvas' reflecting the reality and also a `canvas' to portray the dream of a `future reality'. In such analogy-it is not only essential to make one understand the existing picture, but also to make one to aspire for portraying a new, better, just and fair world. This is precisely the job of legal education in contemporary times.
NALSAR University of Law provides the broadest canvas for different strokes and diverse colours for the aspiring future `artists'-the lawyers. The aim is to make one to understand `Law' as a dynamic process of reflecting and refracting of the `actual' and the `desired'. NALSAR strives to promote the diverse thoughts to make this canvas of legal system rich in its texture and plural in its mixture. NALSAR today, is one of the best among the law schools in the country in terms of infrastructure and quality of legal education. Spread out on a 55 acre campus-the aesthetically designed residential halls, a law library of 13000 sq.ft. connectivity in physical and net, constant stream of visitors from the legal fraternity for interaction, dedicated faculty and other services make it as a desired destination to pursue legal education.

A seed sown in 1998 is blossoming in 2003-a seed sown by the NALSAR Society and nurtured by the Founder President, Hon'ble Mr. Justice U.C. Banerjee, former Judge of Supreme Court, successive Presidents of the University viz., Hon'ble Mr. Justice M.S. Liberhan, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Satyabratha Sinha, Judge Supreme Court of India, Hon'ble Dr. Justice A.R. Lakshmanan, Judge Supreme Court of India, the present President of the University, the member of the University bodies and the well wishers of the University. The University is fortunate to have the constant support and care of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of A.P., Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu. We owe our special thanks and gratitude to him.
For those aspiring to join this University, I would like to share the thoughts of Francis Fukuyama in his book: `The End of the History and the Last Man'-"the man of desire, the Economic Man, the true bourgeois, will perform an internal `cost-benefit analysis' which will always give him a reason for working `within the system'. It is only the thymotic man, the man of anger who is jealous of his own dignity and of his fellow citizens, who feels his worth is constituted by something more than the complex set of desires that make up his physical existence-it is this man alone who is willing to walk in front of a tank or confront a line of soldiers". May I add here-the new thymotic man or woman will be the future lawyer who will confront injustice, autocracy, hatred, violence and terrorism armed with the `new portrait of law'.
NALSAR has the Canvas. You are the future Artist. The vision is to portray the new picture of a just society. Not just for India but for the whole World, with the colours of social justice, economic equality, and political fair play.
