ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION PROCEDURES

To be eligible for appearing in the entrance test for the two year LL.M. Degree Course a candidate shall have passed the LL.B/B.L. degree or an equivalent degree of a recognised University having secured not less than 55% of marks in the aggregate.

Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can appear for the test on condition that they produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of interview. Students who are unable to clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks will not be considered.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Candidates for LL.M. course shall be selected by the Admission Committee, consisting of the Director as the Chairperson and three other members of the faculty nominated by the Director as members, based on a combined assessment of (a) tthe performance at an admission test conducted for the purpose(b) the past academic record at the LL.B./B.L degree and (c) performance at the interview to determine the candidate's aptitude for higher studies and research.

DURATION, INTAKE AND DISTRIBUTION OF COURSES

The LL.M. course shall be of two years duration. Each year shall comprise two Semesters.

The intake for each area of specialisation shall be a maximum of twenty including not more than three foreign nationals. Each candidate shall choose an area of specialisation from those offered by the University from time to time:

  • Human Rights

  • Environmental Law

  • Intellectual Property

  • Corporata Law and Governance

  • Insurance Law

A subject specialisation will be on offer only if sufficient number of students opt for it.

FEE STRUCTURE

Each candidate admitted to the course is required to pay an admission fee of Rs. 1,000/- at the beginning of the first semester of the first year, along with a refundable library deposit of Rs. 1,000/-.

The other fees payable by each candidate is as follows:

  • Tuition fees Rs. 30,000/- per annum (in two equal instalments to be paid at the beginning of each semester). For Foreign Nationals US$ 2000 each year or its equivalent Indian Rupees.

  • Academic Support Services Fee Rs. 3,000/- per annum in two instalments.

The examination fee for each course shall be Rs. 100/- and the dissertation fee
Rs. 500/-.
Note: Tuition and other fees paid by the students admitted will not be refunded under any circumstances.

A.P. Government Fellowship

The Government of Andhra Pradesh recognised NALSAR, University of Law along with Birla Institute of Technology located in Rajasthan: Indian Institutes of Technology situated in different parts of the country, All India Institute of Medical Sciences; Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research; Armed Forces Medical College, Pune as premier academic institutions in the country and is making provision of 1.5 crores to cover the educational expenses of meritorious students who secure admissions in the above institutions through competitive examinations. Andhra Pradesh is the only state in the country to make this kind of provision for meritorious students.

If a student opts for an optional area in which the subject expert is not available at NALSAR, he/she may be placed with the approval of the Director with a Professor in the Law Faculty of another University of repute where the specialisation area is offered.


Evaluation System

Each of the courses in the first semester shall carry a maximum of 100 marks and the dissertation shall carry a maximum of 200 marks. The distribution of marks in each of the seminar courses shall be as follows:

(i) Seminar Paper 60 Marks

(ii) Presentation of Seminar Paper 40 Marks

Note: The titles and the course content of the papers in each of the optional areas shall be as prescribed from time to time by the Faculty Committee. The Faculty Committee shall consist of the Director and two other Members either internal or external to be nominated by the Director, one of whom shall be from the area of specialisation concerned.

The guidelines for presentation of seminars and their evaluation procedures shall be as prescribed by the Faculty Committee.

The paper setting for the written examination shall be done by the teacher who handled the course. The evaluation of answer scripts of the written examination shall be done by the concerned internal/external teacher. The evaluation of the dissertation shall however be done by an external examiner who shall be appointed by the Director.

Every LL.M. student will be associated with a teacher. The student shall attend the specific class of B.A., B.L. (Hons.) of the particular teacher, and assist the teacher in the preparation of teaching materials and all other related activities.

Promotions Scheme

Promotion from one semester to the next semester shall be regulated on the basis of a candidate passing in 3 (three) out of 4 (four) courses prescribed in each semester.

If a candidate clears three papers in all of the previous semester including the papers cleared at the repeat examination conducted immediately before the commencement of the subsequent semester he/she shall be promoted to the next semester.

A candidate will be promoted to the second year if he/she clears all the papers of the first semester and three out of four of the second semester.

No candidate shall, however be allowed to submit the dissertation at the end of the fourth semester unless he has passed in all the courses obtaining atleast the minimum grade prescribed.

Conditions for a Pass and Re-Examination

To be declared successful in any course/dissertation, a candidate shall secure at least `B' Grade. Those who secure `F' Grade shall be declared as failed.

Candidates who fail to appear for the examination in a course or fail to obtain at least `B' Grade shall have to take the examination again in the concerned course, including presentation of fresh seminars, in the corresponding semester.

If a candidate secures `F' Grade in dissertation or fails to submit the dissertation within the time permitted he shall have one more chance to submit a revised dissertation or dissertation as the case may be within such time as the concerned Faculty Committee decides.

A student admitted to the LL.M. degree programme shall have to complete all the prescribed requirements within a maximum period of 4 years from and including the year of admission in order to be eligible for the award of the degree.

Award of the Degree

Candidates who have

(i) Completed all the courses and dissertation obtaining at least a 'B' Grade.

(ii) Secured cumulative grade point average of 4 out of 8;

shall be awarded the LL.M. Degree.
